Andrea Lamarsaude, who owns a gallery and artists’ workspace called Art on Main, came up with the idea. She said she was inspired by other neighborhood initiatives such as the nonprofit “Cedars Open Studios”, which has as its mission promoting the Cedars district’s art community. Lamarsaude was quoted by dallasinnovates.com as saying:
"There is so much artistic talent in East and Old East Dallas - 60-plus artists, galleries, creative businesses. My thought was, let’s make it an official unified arts district."
She elaborated saying that one of goals would be creating a map to help visitors to the neighborhood locate studios and related businesses, while another would be cross-promoting exhibitions, pop-ups, and art walks in East Dallas and Old East Dallas.
Print shops can supply a wide range of promotional materials, from maps to Banners and Flyers.
Proponents of creating an official East Dallas Arts District say it would show off local talent, foster a sense of community, and build up local business and the arts.
The plan is to launch the East Dallas Arts District in 2024 with an inaugural annual art walk.
