July and August prime times for Texans moving house

A recently released report confirms what Dallas real estate agents have already known – July, followed closely by August, are the most popular months of the year for moving house.

Although there are more comfortable times of the year in the Lone Star State to be hauling Boxes and moving furniture, summer is generally preferable. The author of the study conducted by Moving Feedback over the last three years, Harrison Gough, explained.

"The summer months offer more convenience when moving home as the weather is likely to be warm and rental leases start to expire, causing more people to look for properties. Many parents will wait until the summer to move house as it will not disrupt their child’s education."

According to the report, new listings for July homes in Texas were more than 120,000 between 2020 and 2022, with the same three-year period during August seeing 117,200 properties listed.

The study utilized data garnered from Zillow to determine the number of Texas properties available for rent or purchase from 2020 to through 2022.

Among the information that can be gleaned from the report is when moving will be less expensive – such as during the fall and winter – as well as when it will be easiest to locate a new place to live, which is just prior to the moving boom months of July and August.
