Holiday tradition returns to Franklin

A fantastic holiday event is set to engage all of Franklin.

Franklin’s Dickens of a Christmas transforms the entire city into a replica of Charles Dickens’s London, with the architecture of downtown Franklin providing the backdrop. A number of Dickensian characters, dancers, and musicians will be in the streets, and visitors can expect to meet and perhaps interact with characters like Fagin from “Oliver Twist,” Ebenezer Scrooge, Jacob Marley, and Tiny Tim Cratchit and his family from “A Christmas Carol,” not to mention a Victorian version of Mother and Father Christmas, who will have treats to give to the children.

In addition to a chance to travel back in time to London, festivalgoers will be able to examine the wares of arts and crafts vendors, who will have unique gifts, foods, products, and crafts from throughout the local region, nation, and the wider world.

The Victorian Village will take over an entire block on Main Street where entertainers, characters, and holiday dancers will be found. Grace Chapel will present its popular KidsZone, where the youngsters will find activities especially for them.

Main Street merchants will be open late for people to do some additional shopping, and many will have specials. A Whiskey Lounge is also planned. Details are still being finalized on food and beverage vendors, as well as on live entertainment.

The Dickens of a Christmas is Saturday, December 9 and Sunday, December 10. Organizers can use banner printing to create colorful outdoor decorations for an event like this.
