What's Happening in Franklin, TN…

Park Street Apartments in Franklin had its grand opening recently, and added 22 units of affordable housing to the city's inventory.

Elected officials who attended the celebration included Ken Moore, the mayor of Franklin; Rogers Anderson, the County Mayor; and several others. They acknowledged the progress that can be made when agencies form partnerships to work toward a common goal.

The renovation of the apartments resulted from a partnership between the Franklin Housing Authority (FHA) and the Tennessee Housing Development Agency (THDA). The buildings, which date from the 1970s, underwent a complete renovation, including new central air and heating, as well as the installation of energy-efficient appliances. Exterior work included new tile, new roofs, and new flooring.

Despite the fact the apartments were developed by the FHA, the development is not subsidized, nor are they public housing. They are offered on the regular market, but with rents starting at $600, tenants will have to provide financial information with regard to income to qualify for the housing.

This is the third development that addresses the problem of affordable housing in Franklin. The other two are Reddick Senior Residences, with 48 units, and Reddick Street Apartments, which has 64 units.

Projects like this have a lot to offer, and can benefit if officials work with a brochure printing company to create a brochure that shows the development's amenities.
