Franklin raises the steaks at upcoming blood drive

While many may see giving blood as a kind act that needs no incentive, a Franklin drive next week will see donors rewarded for their good deed with grilled grub.

The American Red Cross has teamed up with Suburban Propane to invite all donors at the upcoming drive to a cookout on the premises. The generosity continues with a serving of ice cream from Blue Bell, Chick-fil-A and Sonic vouchers, and gift card from Visa worth $10 also offered to those who give blood.

Mario Sedlock of Red Cross Tennessee Valley stresses while many people are thinking about a getaway at this time of year, the constant need for blood does not take a summer vacation of its own. Donations are particularly important over the next three months, when the number of appointments scheduled drops by about a third on average.

With blood type O being the most common, it is also in the most demand. B negative and A negative are others that tend to run short, but all types are gratefully accepted.

The blood drive with a barbecue flavor will take place in the Meeting Room at Williamson County Library next Wednesday, June 6, with donations taken between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm. An appointment can be made via the Red Cross Blood website, but donors are also welcome to simply walk in on the day.
