Lunar Fest 2020 is returning to Sioux Falls as the community welcomes the Chinese Lunar New Year, which is will be the Year of the Rat.
This annual festival celebrates Asian culture for the fifth year in a row, featuring plenty of specialty foods, musical performances, famous dances and rituals, martial arts exhibitions, and all sorts of entertainment for the family. Residents in Sioux Falls will get to participate in this Lunar New Year event supported by the Vietnamese American Association.
Lunar Fest depicts the city’s prosperity and cultural diversity by uniting ethnic groups living in Sioux Falls, such as the Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, and Taiwanese who celebrate each year based on the Lunar Calendar. There will be a wide variety of exotic foods to try, dancers marching in lion costumes, and fashion shows with women and children in traditional attire.
The Year of the Rat is scheduled to begin with a welcoming dance followed by a special dinner banquet. Afterward, guests can watch the lions dance to the beat of the drums, or stick around longer for stage performances from a live band to martial arts demonstrations. There could also be a raffle drawing for prizes or a quiz show in between.
Lunar Fest will be open to the public on February 1 from 5:00 pm until 10:00 pm at the Active Generations building in Sioux Falls. Organizations that use flyer printing in populated areas would attract more guests to cultural events like this one.
