This February, the Outdoor Campus in Sioux Falls will host the Winter Sowing Class for anyone interested in learning more about sowing winter-hardy seeds and plants.
The Outdoor Campus offers hands-on experience in outdoor fields such as fishing, hunting, conservation science, and outdoor skills. These educational classes are offered for free and are designed for all ages. The campus also features an outdoor playscape, a butterfly garden, over two miles of walking and cross-country skiing trails, and indoor educational exhibits.
The winter sowing class will teach attendees how to use a seed-starting method to grow hard winter plants and get a headstart on the growing season. This sowing method can be utilized to grow a variety of winter-hardy flowers, herbs, and vegetables, but this class will focus on sowing plants native to South Dakota. This method will use clear plastic containers, which will be provided by organizers, but attendees are welcome to bring their own containers or jugs.
Flyers are a popular method of advertising hands-on workshops like this, and organizers may seek out the flyer printing services of their local Print shops if they choose to go this route.
The Winter Sowing Class is scheduled to take place on February 10 from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm. The Outdoor Campus is located at 4500 S Oxbow Avenue, Sioux Falls.
