Sioux Falls celebrates 100 years of municipal band

In 1919, the Sioux Falls Municipal Band was formed by popular vote. This year, the Old Courthouse Museum will host an exhibit celebrating this history and displaying it for the community to see.

The band has played at parks, parades, local events, retirement communities, and many other places. The exhibit will showcase their work through the years. It will also provide information on the current members and directors of the band.

The exhibit will be hosted in the Old Courthouse Museum, located on Main and 6th. Museum admission is free, and free two-hour parking is available in two lots next to the museum. Metered curbside parking is also available. The museum covers three floors and all of the exhibit space focuses on the region’s history.

The museum is open to the public Monday through Wednesday and Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Thursday from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm, Saturday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Sunday from noon to 5:00 pm.

Events like this often use banner printing to help advertise. As this building is in a prominent location, a banner would likely raise awareness in the community. The band will play on the opening day of the exhibit, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. The exhibit is set to open on Friday, April 5.
