Six-figure sum awarded to Providence art gallery

The National Endowment for the Humanities has awarded $300,000 to help Providence College’s art gallery recover from the effects of Covid-19.

The school was among 90 colleges across the country to receive funding from the American Rescue Plan to rebuild projects and programs effected by Covid-19, as well as help keep and rehire staff.

According to the director and chief curator of Providence College Galleries, Jamilee Lacy, the grant will assist in the funding of “Multiplicity: Abstraction, Pattern and Identity in Limited-Edition Art”, a new project at the college. Lacy went on in a statement saying:

“The project is intended to facilitate greater use of the art collection by various audiences, including not only PC faculty and students but also members of the public, especially those of neighboring high school and teen programs, community groups, and state-wide neighbors who desire experience and repeated engagement with contemporary art.”

Art museums have multiple opportunities to benefit from the services provided by Print shops, such as engaging a banner printing service to announce when a new exhibit is ready for viewing, and creating Postcards featuring some of their art exhibits.

Integrating the contemporary art pieces, of which 75 have been acquired, into the gallery’s permanent collection will require hiring a trio of part-time staff members as well as the services of contractors.
