Rhode Island celebrates its combined heritage this fall

The 37th annual Rhode Island Heritage Day Festival is taking place in Providence in just a few weeks, and is a presentation of the Rhode Island Historical Preservation and Heritage Commission.

The day will be filled with cultural displays from around a dozen countries, food representing at least eight nations, and craft demonstrations. In past years, some of the countries represented included Burundi, Britain, Colombia, and Sweden.

There will also be traditional dance performances, musical entertainment, and activities for the children, including arts and crafts and face painting.

Since the day after the festival is United Nations International Day of Peace, there will be an observation of the Peach Flag Project. This will include a flag-making workshop and a walk to the Memorial Park Green in recognition of the day.

Due to the festivals popularity in Providence, organizers will more than likely be advertising it widely in the area. Local Print companies are often approached to provide marketing items such as Posters and Flyers to help spread the word in local areas.

The festival will be held at Roger Williams National Memorial Park on September 20 from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Should it rain, an alternative date of September 21 has been arranged. Admission is free and more about the day's events can be found by contacting Mercedes Monteiro at 401-222-4133.
