Joahluis Molina has won first prize in the New England Reginal Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge sponsored by the nonprofit Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) and will continue on to the national finals.
Molina, a student in Providence’s The MET High School, along with other youngsters pitched their ideas in a Shark Tank-like competition in front of a panel of judges. Molina’s business idea was for a full-service junk removal company to be called That Junk Removal Company. As the first-place winner the student received $1,500.
Schools and communities often turn to banner printing services to announce a member's accomplishment.
The NFTE is a global nonprofit that provides middle school, high school and postsecondary students with high-quality entrepreneurship education and has been doing so since 1987. The organization has contributed to the education of over a million students irrespective of their race, ethnicity, gender identity, special needs, family income or community resources. NFTE’s programs are presented in and out of school, in-person, online as well as through hybrid models.
Another Providence student, also from The MET High School was a runner up, which garnered him $250 for his business idea of a wall-mounted electrolyte dispenser called GoLyte to address the hydration needs of everyone.
Molina will present his business idea at the national finals on October 10, in New York for the National Champion title and cash prizes.
