Winter can be a time for gardeners to learn, plan and prepare for the upcoming season, and a Warminster area class will help them to up their game when it comes to plant propagation.
Chris Danley will be sharing his expertise when it comes to plant propagation, and he will be focusing on native species. The techniques taught may be helpful for the home gardener, allowing them to grow cultivars well beyond what they may be able to find in a typical garden center.
The group will be introduced to seed starting, and treatments such as scarification and stratification that are used to help break the seed’s dormancy will also be discussed. They will also explore the value of seed saving, and will learn about how to find, harvest, clean and store them for the future. Each learner will have the opportunity to prepare a flat of seedlings to take home, and both Pennypack Ecological Restoration Trust members and non-members alike may take part.
A hands-on class can be very effective when it comes to teaching members of the public some new skills. Tip sheets and other learning materials for an event can be both designed and prepared by area Stationery printers.
This chance to get the scoop on seed starting with native plants is scheduled for January 21st. It will be offered at 2955 Edge Hill Road in Huntingdon Valley.
