Warminster afternoon planned for siblings of special needs kids

Being the sibling of a brother or sister with special needs isn’t always an easy road to travel, especially for a young child. A group that understands what they are going through will be starting up in Warminster this January, and any youngsters in the local are who feel it could be helpful are invited to come aboard.

The SuperSibs Support Group, which is for kids who are between 7 and 12, will give boys and girls who are living with autism or another developmental, physical or mental health challenges a chance to have fun and share their feelings in a safe space. Since they will all have similar experiences, it can be an environment that is both supportive and empathetic, and the function is being facilitated by Airmid Wellness and Counseling Center.

The kids that participate in the afternoon will play games, take part in activities and just plain have a good time making new friends. They will also be welcome to do some “venting” about the frustrations that can sometimes go along with being a sibling to a special needs child, all while celebrating the strengths.

Taking part in this type of group activity can be really helpful to a youngster, as they will be surrounded by others who have walked a mile in their shoes. Journaling can often prove helpful to someone in this situation, and a company that produces Notebooks and other Corporate Gifts can custom design ones to hand out during this sort of meeting.

The SuperSibs Support Group will be meeting on January 11th, starting at 1:30 pm. It will be held at 1260 Old York Road.
