At the moment, no city in the United States is on the list of urban areas which have been accorded World Heritage status. If Philadelphia obtains the distinction via the work of the program of the World Heritage Cities as administered by part of the United Nations, postcard printing in Warminster could be used to mark the occasion.
A decisive vote will take place in Peru during the fall, and the director of the Global Philadelphia Association, Zabeth Teelucksingh, has expressed confidence in the fate of Philadelphia. Teelucksingh has maintained that the city has been given the information that it has a 95% chance of success.
Global Philadelphia's director has further explained the importance of the accolade to settlements like Philadelphia, saying:
"Some have said it's almost like a Sister Cities program on steroids.”
Although there are genuine grounds for optimism about the decision, Philadelphia is not passively waiting for the outcome. The orchestra of the city has plans to liaise with people from cities that already enjoy World Heritage status. The cities in question include Lyon, France, and Vienna, Austria.
If Philadelphia does manage to gain World Heritage recognition from United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), it will complement the acknowledgement it has already got for its Independence Hall; the American Constitution and the Declaration of Independence were signed within this historic building.
