This year, fans of the Kentucky Derby will not have to travel far from Hanover to celebrate race day in style.
Adams County Winery will be holding its own version of Derby Day. The winery has timed the release of its newest wine, Metro Monet Chardonnay, to coincide with the event.
The chardonnay is partly inspired the retired race horse turned painter Metro Meteor. For each bottle sold, the winery will donate $1 to the New Vocations Race Horse Adoption Program. The program helps place retired race horses in new homes. The winery is also donating a portion of ticket sales to the adoption program.
The chardonnay will not be the only thing making its debut on Derby Day; the winery is also introducing a new stone-fired pizza oven and the Terrace Bistro to the public on that day. The bistro will serve pizza, appetizers, and dessert flatbreads. Adams County Winery can use poster printing to get the word out about the event and the grand opening of the restaurant.
Attendees are encouraged to dress in their best, with Derby hats particularly encouraged. Although the event itself is free, people are able to reserve seating the infield or grandstand for $5 to $10. Tables that seat six can be reserved in the infield for $60.
The event takes place this Saturday, May 7, from noon until 5:00 pm
