Hanover woman crowned Miss York County

A new Miss York County has been named for 2017, and she happens to be from Hanover.

Jennah Motter was crowned the overall winner at the 68th annual pageant at the end of January. As part of her win, she was awarded scholarship money, as well as the opportunity to compete in the statewide beauty pageant. If she ends up being crowned Miss Pennsylvania, she will have the chance to compete in the Miss USA pageant.

Pageants can use marketing services to let aspiring contestants know about entrance rules and deadlines, and to get the word out about the events to the general public. All in all, there were six winners in the York County pageant, who split more than $10,000 in scholarship money.

Speaking to the Hanover Evening Sun, Motter explained that her platform is reducing obesity by promoting fun fitness events. She currently works at Greater York Dance full-time and has plans to create programs in elementary schools and retirement communities in the area that encourage people to get up and get fit by dancing.

She plans on providing free dance classes at the retirement homes, and free afterschool programs at the schools.

Motter's next steps include competing in the Miss PA pageant in June. She also plans on enrolling in the Graham School of Business at York College, using her pageant money.
