Bowling is the family business for Kristen Gessner's family, so it should not be much of a surprise that the 30-year-old recently earned the honor of being one of the top 40 young (under age 40) professionals in the bowling industry.
The Bowling Proprietors Association of America doled out the honors. Gessner's grandfather, Glenn Bair, began the family business, Hanover Bowling Center, almost 60 years ago. Gessner is currently the manager of the bowling alley, while her father, Mike Bair, owns the facility.
Although Gessner did not always plan on going into the bowling business, after a summer spent working there, she found that she really enjoyed it and ended up staying around. She stated that she was "proud and honored to be recognized by my peers", and described the recognition as completely "unexpected".
The family could use banner printing to advertise Gessner's achievement to patrons of the Bowling Centre. Since she began working at the bowling alley seven years ago, she has started a number of programs there, such as an after-school program, a bowling curriculum for local schools and gym teachers, and a monthly bowling league competition for area businesses.
With the programs she has put into play at the bowling center, Gessner's goal has been to make her family's business one that would make her grandfather proud. Although working at the bowling alley can be challenging at times, she said that she enjoys it and sees it as a part of her life.
