While plenty of people want to hide out at home when the temperatures drop below freezing, residents in York County, including those in Hanover, will have the chance to celebrate the deep freeze in the middle of January.
Later this week, the first annual FestivIce is scheduled to take place in nearby York, at the Brooks Robinson Plaza. The festival of all things chilly gets going on Friday evening and keeps going through the day on Saturday. The promoters of the festival could use printing services to spread the word and to make a push to get more people to attend.
The festival will have a lot for people of all ages to see and do on Friday night, starting at 5:00 pm, The DiMartino Ice Company of Jeannette will be in attendance, using chisels and chainsaws to build sculptures out of ice. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Sideshow Thrills will be on hand to perform a number of stunts involving real fire.
People who have had enough of the cold weather will have a chance to let their neighbors know in verse, at a poetry slam named ‘Ice Your Winter Grievances’.
The highlight of the festival on Saturday might be the Polar Beach Party, during which attendees are invited to wear a swimsuit beneath a winter coat. The beach party is meant to get people excited about the upcoming Polar Bear Plunge, which takes place the first week in February.
