Starting in October, residents of Hanover will have a number of opportunities to learn more about diabetes.
The Visiting Nurse Association of Hanover and Spring Grove is offering a diabetes education workshop that runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays until October 28. The workshop is targeted at people on Medicare, as well as their family members and caregivers, but anyone who is interested in learning more about the disease is welcome to attend.
Topics covered will include how to prevent diabetes complications, and how to live more healthfully with prediabetes or diabetes.
Those interested in registering can sign up by contacting Angela Alwood either by email or phone. The workshop sessions will take place during the day, from 1:00 pm until 2:30 pm.
A similarly educational program will take place at the York Street Medical Center on November 1. Dr. James Dicke, an endocrinologist, will deliver a talk during the hospital's ‘Dinner with a Doc’ program. Dr. Dicke will discuss ways to manage diabetes, including new developments and upcoming research. He will also discuss how those with diabetes can work with an endocrinologist to better manage their condition.
The dinner will begin at 5:00 pm and Dr. Dicke's presentation will be from 6:00 to 7:00 pm. The dinner and discussion are free, but interested parties need to RSVP to the Hanover Hospital Diabetes Education Services by October 25. Organizers of such programs can use Brochures to help educate and inform those who attend.
