Hanover residents can celebrate Oktoberfest in September

It might be called Oktoberfest, but in some areas, including Hanover and York, it is celebrated in September.

Later this month, a number of restaurants in York will offer specials for Oktoberfest Week. So far, 13 area restaurants have signed up to create special Menus and offer discounts and deals during the week.

Restaurants that participate in special events can use postcard printing to easily spread the word around town, and to get the news out to people who might have dined with them in the past.

Specials offered during Oktoberfest week include a few German-inspired smoothies, named the Fruchtsaft Smoothie, at the Fizzy Bee. The restaurant will also serve a special lemon egg cream (which actually contains no eggs), named Die Schweitz, in honor of Oktoberfest.

Bair's Chicken will be serving sausage and sauerkraut croquettes, named Sauerkraut Kroketten during the week. The croquettes will be served with a sweet mustard sauce and are available for $2 each, or three for $5.25.

Another restaurant, Baron Von Schwein, will have bowls of potato, cheese, and beer soup available for $3.50, and will serve Currywurst for $6.

Although the restaurant specials run from September 18 to 24, Oktoberfest kicks off with an outdoor German festival on September 17. The sold out festival will offer a variety of beer and snacks, on a pay-as-you-go basis.
