What's Happening in Hanover, PA…

More than 50 people auditioned for a part in a locally made, independent film last weekend.

Wherl Productions, a local video company based in Hanover, is producing the film. The audition attracted residents with a range of experience, from actors with full résumés and headshots, to amateurs who are looking to get a shot at being in a film.

The film's producer, Don Cole, and director Mark Wherley are trying to use as many local resources as possible when making the film. Its working title is ‘The Escape’, and the story is set in the near future, focusing on a protagonist who ends up being involved in a conspiracy. It is the production company's first major film, although it has previously producing commercials. To spread the word about the auditions, the pair used Facebook, which can be complemented with a flyer and postcard printing campaign.

At the auditions, the director and producer were looking to cast six main speaking roles, as well as stunt people and extras. People with experience in combat, such as Breanna Cue who takes taekwondo, were encouraged to audition. Cue noted that it was her first time ever going out for a part, and that she would be happy to be in the film, even just as an extra.

The goal is to start shooting the film on April 16, after a callback audition and the roles are cast. The producers hope to film the movie in 20 to 25 days.
