Byers, who is just 23-years-old, is about to make her national Broadway tour debut as Mrs. Potiphar in ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’. The musical is retelling of the tale of Joseph, who was given a brightly colored coat by his father and betrayed by his jealous brothers. After he is sold into slavery, Mrs. Potiphar tries to seduce him, but Joseph is able to resist her charms.
When asked about her role in the musical, Byers, who is the daughter of the director of the Hanover School of Ballet, told the Evening Sun:
"[Going on tour has] been one of my dreams. I didn't think it would happen this fast to be honest. I'm really thankful for it."
Byers attended college at Oklahoma City University, where she majored in dance performance. She didn't originally plan on auditioning for the role, but did so at the encouragement of her mother.
After the musical plays in New York, the tour will take it and its performers up and down the East Coast, then to Texas, the Midwest, the West Coast, and back east again.
‘Joseph’ is set to play at the Strand Capitol Performing Arts Center tomorrow, February 15. The theater could use poster printing to highlight the fact that a local is starring in the show.
