What's Happening in Hanover, PA…

After a search, Hanover City Council voted in a new borough manager at the beginning of this month.

Members voted unanimously to name Michael Bowersox as the permanent manager for the municipality.

A total of 12 people applied for the role and five were interviewed. The council choose Bowersox because of his background and recommendations. Bowersox served with the Marine Corps for 30 years as a commissioned officer, before retiring in 2015. His three decades of serviced allowed him to develop leadership skills, which appealed to council members.

After hiring a new leader or employees, municipal governments often use business card printing to help welcome their new team members.

Bowersox will earn a salary of $100,000 per year. He will not receive retirement or health benefits, since he has benefits from the Marines. He will be the fourth manager of Hanover over the last two years. Barb Krebs, who held the position for years, resigned in 2015. Her replacement, Florence Ford, left the position for personal reasons in 2016. Since then, Michael O'Rourke has served as interim manager, but was not chosen to take on the permanent role.

The council is hoping that Bowersox will "take us where we want to be at a faster pace with his background and credentials," according to Henry McLin, the council member who headed up the search committee.
