The Codorus State Park Winter Festival in Hanover might make locals think of outdoor seasonal activity aside from skiing or skating.
A highlight of the annual festival is the Eagle Plunge, in which brave (or crazy) participants can jump into Lake Marburg for an icy shock. Registration for the plunge begins at 10:00 am on the day of the festival. People can also mail in their registration Forms and $35 fee for participating before the day of the event. Those who registered early, before Christmas Day, were given a free T-shirt.
Proceeds from the Eagle Plunge go to help the Friends of Codorus Park raise money for projects, such as improving the park's buildings and repairing boat docks. These improvements are outside of the park's usual budget.
The Friends group can use flyer printing to advertise the event, as well as its sister event, the Chicken Plunge, which starts at 1pm the same day. Designed for people who are a bit nervous about jumping into a lake on a cold winter's day, the Chicken Plunge involves only taking a few steps into the water.
Jumping into cold water is not the only thing going on during the festival. There will also be ice and wood carving stations, a dog sled, horse-drawn sleds, and snowmobile displays. Food vendors will also be on hand throughout the day.
