Hanover delivers spooks with Halloween in the Park

Halloween planning is well underway in Hanover, as the Friends of Coderus State Park get ready for the annual ‘Halloween in the Park’ fundraiser.

Before the event kicks off, people reserve campgrounds, which they then decorate to get into the spirit of Halloween. Those who reserve campsites in certain areas of the park also agree to participate in a trick or treat event, and give out candy and treats to children dressed in costume.

A haunted, but still family-friendly hayride takes visitors on a 1.5-mile tour of the campsites, so that they can see all the decorated tents and RVs. Children also have the option of trick or treating through part of the campground, if they wish.

Although the nightly hayrides and trick or treating might be a big draw, they are just one part of Halloween in the Park. Another highlight is the pet parade, scheduled for October 24 at 11am. Pet owners are welcome to dress their four-legged friends in a frightful costume and bring them to the parade.

The annual event, which is advertised through flyer printing and word of mouth, is scheduled for October 23 and 24. Admission to Halloween in the Park is by donation, with a suggested fee of $12 per car. The event starts at 6:00 pm each night and goes until 10:00 pm.
