Last year, the York County Community Foundation awarded non-profit organizations in the York, Adams and Hanover areas $5.2 million in grant funds.
More than 300 organizations received a portion of the grant money, with the greatest amount going to organizations that provide health and human services. Those organizations received a total of $1.98 million. Education-focused groups received the next largest amount of grant money, $1.53 million.
Organizations providing environmental, artistic and community development services also received money from the grant programs. Those that receive funding from grants and from foundations can use marketing services to help spread their missions and to get even more support.
The York County Library was one recipient of the grant money. The library received money to develop a workforce program to help people find sustainable work. The program will take place at the library branch in Salem Square. Part of the proceeds from the grant will go towards the purchase of workforce development and education software. The money will also allow the library to hire a bilingual specialist to provide workforce support several days a week.
Other organizations to receive funding included the YWCA of York, which got $7,510 for its career program for girls and Crispus Attucks, which got $5,125 to make improvements to the Goodridge Freedom Center.
