Hanover area gets ready to give a Leg Up to new market

A new farmers market is getting set to open in Manchester Township, near Hanover.

The Leg Up Farmers Market has a grand opening scheduled for March 16, which is just seven months after work on the 18,700-square-foot, $5m grocery store began.

The goal of the market is to sell as much locally sourced food as possible, and to only sell natural foods. It will work with local dairy companies such as Farm Fromage in Manheim Township, Caputo Brothers Creamery from Spring Grove, and York Valley Cheese Co. from Hallam. York's Nuts About Granola will provide granola, and meat will available from several area farmers, including Forge Hill Farm, which provides grass-fed beef.

Along with supporting local producers, the Leg Up market will be community minded in other ways. A total of 70% of its profits will go to supporting area charities Able Services and Leg Up Farm, both of which work with adults and kids with developmental disabilities. Brad Clark, the COO of the market, noted that supporting the nonprofits is the "purpose behind what we're doing".

The store could use printing services to let customers know of its opening hours and to provide details on any promotions it is running. Describing the market as a “labor of love”, Clark hopes that it will provide shoppers in the area with something they can't find elsewhere.
