Last summer, thousands of people filmed themselves dumping buckets of ice water on their heads to raise awareness for ALS, and a local father is now hoping to start a similar craze to address autism.
Max Jamelli, a man from Chambersburg, near Hanover, is trying to raise awareness about the disorder, but instead of using ice water, he is using donuts.
‘Derek's Donut Challenge’ is named in honor of his six-year-old son, who is autistic. Jamelli is focusing on promoting his challenge in April, during Autism Awareness Month.
Like the ice bucket challenge, the idea behind the Donut Challenge is simple. Participants are asked to push an entire donut into their mouths, while recording it, then to smile for the camera. After eating the donut, participants should nominate five people to donate to the National Autism Society.
Jamelli's hope is that the challenge will go viral, just as the ice bucket challenge spread rapidly last year. He can promote it using social media, but might also want to consider working with a Print company to spread the word around the community.
He decided on a donut challenge for a few reasons. Derek, a somewhat picky eater, really loves donuts. Jamelli also thought that there was some humor behind the idea of shoving an entire donut into a person's mouth at once.
People who decide to participate are invited to post their donut videos to the challenge's Facebook page, or to put them on YouTube. Of course, people can decide to simply donate to the National Autism Society, if they prefer, instead of cramming a donut into their mouths.Get a Free Quote for Print
