Animal rescue near Hanover expands to include new premises

Stephanie Baum, a resident of Gettysburg, near Hanover, is set to expand her pet rescue business.

Ms. Baum was inspired to create a pet rescue program after seeing the animal overpopulation problem for herself firsthand. Back in 2012, she and her family decided to adopt a dog, and traveled all the to South Carolina to do so.

Upon her return, she put the wheels in motion to start her own local pet rescue. In 2013, Forever Love Rescue, which operates a trap, neuter and return program for stray cats and arranges foster homes for cats and dogs, got its start. Since that time, Baum estimates that the rescue has placed more than 150 cats and around 120 dogs in permanent homes.

Two years later, her program was ready to expand its mission. At the end of October, Baum opened Kitty & K-9 Corner in Gettysburg. The pet store sells treats and toys for pets and has a separate adoption center. To promote the store's grand opening and to get people to volunteer to support Forever Love Rescue, Baum can use postcard printing to get the word out.

Along with being a place for pet lovers to purchase items for their animals, the store will act as a neutral space for potential foster families to meet dogs and cats. According to Judy Leeti, one of the volunteers who fosters dogs through Forever Love Rescue, the new store will be a great place to meet people who are interested in fostering.
