Work on Bucks County Justice Center monument underway

A formal groundbreaking ceremony was held July 1 for the monument commemorating those affected by the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

The 9/11 monument will sit outside the Bucks County Justice Center and feature a 20 foot I-beam that was pulled from the rubble of the World Trade Center. The Travis Manion Foundation acquired the I-beam and provided it to the City of Doylestown.

Ryan Manion Borek, the Foundation’s president, said the monument is to honor the first responders, victims of the attack, military members, veterans and their families. According to Manion Borek, who is from Bucks County, his late mother, Janet, (the Foundation’s founder) applied for a World Trade Center artifact in 2009.

The monument, titled ‘Renew. Resolve. Remember.’ uses the upright two-ton I-beam as a focal point. A lot of symbolism is going into the monument, which is meant to express the ‘resilient spirit of America’. Once completed, the monument will likely become a favorite for those who deal in postcard printing.

The cost of the monument is reported to be about $250,000; the Foundation has yet to raise the final $75,000. According to Ryan Manion Borek, donations are being accepted by the Travis Manion Foundation and donor recognition opportunities are still available. The monument is scheduled to be completed no later than September 11, 2015 at which time a dedication will likely take place.
