United Way donating funds for DelVal charitable garden

Harvest of Hope, a charitable garden operated by Delaware Valley University (DelVal), has received a sizeable donation from the United Way of Bucks County.

The local United Way used the proceeds from a 2015 event, Bucks Knocks Out Hunger, to provide its donation of $12,000 to Harvest of Hope. According to college officials, the money will be used to defray the costs incurred by the hunger fighting project for the 2016 growing season.

Dr. Christopher Tipping, Interim Dean of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, received the check on behalf of the university program, saying:

“The United Way’s support has helped us to produce more pounds of food for people in need. They have also helped with logistics and community awareness of the garden.”

Fostering awareness and building support go hand in hand and are facilitated with the use of flyer printing and Mailing services.

Hope of the Harvest uses DelVal land to grow food for local food pantries. The project was born in 2012 and original confined to one acre of ground on DelVal’s main campus, which is located in Doylestown.

That one acre in the first year produced 16,000lb of fresh, nutritious produce for area residents. Since then, the project has expanded in land used and in food harvested so that over 60,000lb of produce per growing season is now being produced.
