Doylestown Township supervisors are weighing two options recently presented to them concerning the renovation and possible expansion of the township’s municipal administrative facilities.

The property in question is the municipal complex on Wells Road, which needs a variety of upgrades including updating of heating, air-conditioning, and ventilation systems. The township also wishes to expand the police department with larger evidence storage facilities, and a more secure sally port for bringing in detainees and holding area.

The options offered to meet these needs are as follows: Option A – expand the present municipal building as well as perform the needed upgrades for $8.6m, or Option B – upgrade the present facility and make it entirely into a new police headquarters and build a new separate administration building for $10.5m with an 8,000-square-foot recreational facility included to use for indoor sporting events.

Regardless of which option the supervisors choose, a tax increase will be necessary to pay for it, according to Supervisor Rich Colello.

Resident Karen Murphy inquired about Doylestown Township choosing to be under the Central Bucks Regional Police Department that will open a new headquarters in a couple of years in Doylestown.
