Evening of froggy fun planned for Doylestown area wetland

Quakertown Swamp is home to several species of amphibians, and an excursion near the end of the month will visit this Doylestown area ecosystem.

Anyone who is 12 and older is welcome to register for the “Swamp Tromp” activity, and the guide for the outing will be Kyle Loucks who is a herpetologist (amphibian expert) and coordinator for the Pennsylvania Amphibian and Reptile Survey (PARS). He will discuss the amphibians that call the pond home, and with some luck, the group may even be able to spot them in their natural environment.

After this portion of the event has concluded, the attendees will be invited to visit the vernal ponds frequented by spawning toads, frogs, and salamanders. Here, they can enjoy listening to the songs of the spring peepers and other species that begin to sing when the sun goes down.

An activity like this can give the public an introduction to the nature all around them. A poster printing company can be called upon to prepare materials to let the public know when and where the function will be on offer.

Registration for the Swamp Tromp is now open, and there is no fee being charged for Heritage Conservancy members. Nonmembers will be asked to pay $10, and the group will assemble at the Richland Township Building at 6:30 pm on March 28 before heading out for the evening.
