Doylestown workshop to help bring back bluebirds
Bluebirds were once a common sight in the Doylestown area, and a special activity that will encourage them to make a comeback is on the agenda for the community.
Late February will see members of the public offered an opportunity to learn more about bluebirds, inducing their ecology and the threats they face. It will be a hands-on function, and everyone will go home with a way to welcome these feathered friends to their own yard.
The attendees at the workshop, which will be held at the Peace Valley Nature Center, will be learning about bluebirds and also creating nest boxes. These are important for cavity nesters, and will be designed specifically for this particular species. Males tend to choose nesting sites early in the season, so the boxes constructed during this session will be ready to be installed well ahead of their arrival.
By offering the public an opportunity to engage in hands-on environmental stewardship, an organization can create a new crop of stakeholders. A flyer printing company will be able to lend a hand in making sure as many as possible know that a particular function will be held in their home area.
The Peace Valley Nature Center will be offering this workshop on February 25. The registration fee is $20 for members and $25 for non-members.
