Doylestown workshop crafts beginner bog gardens
Bogs offer an ideal home to the acid-loving plants and other species that have adapted to the growing conditions they offer, and a Doylestown area workshop will introduce them to area home gardeners.
Aquascapes Unlimited will be offering an introduction to the challenge of creating a bog garden, and it will offer hands-on learning. An immersive experience, it will explore how many of the plants thrive in the low nutrient soil conditions bogs often present.
The subject matter experts on hand will walk the attendees through creating a bog in a container, and plant selection will be covered. They will learn how to prepare the soil and add species such as pitcher plants, many of which are becoming more commonly available in the trade. Tips for locating the mini bogs will be shared, and overwintering advice will be on the agenda as well. Pest control and feeding the garden will wrap up the discussion.
As this will be a hands-on session, everyone will go home with their own mini bog with pitcher plants, sundews, an orchid, a Venus flytrap, and other species. Plant care tip sheets and other materials for plant parents can be prepared by stationery printers.
The team at Aquascapes Unlimited will be partnering with the Hardy Plant Society/Mid-Atlantic Group to offer the session on Thursday, June 19. It will begin at 10:00 am.
