What's Happening in Doylestown, PA…

Doylestown schedules introductory soapmaking session

The cold process method can be used to craft soap at home, and a local workshop geared towards the beginner will help them get their feet wet.

DeGanya Aromatic’s Vanessa Phipps will share her expertise in the craft in Doylestown. The registration fee, which starts at $125, covers the cost of instruction, materials, and other support, and everyone will receive six follow-up emails to help keep them on track.

Participants will be taught how to work safely with lye, and measuring using ounces and grams will also be discussed. The use of a soap calculator will be reviewed, and the process of how oils and fats are turned into soap is also on the agenda. “Super fatting” and the differences between fragrant oils and essential oils will wrap up the activity. Everyone will go home with a log of soap as well as a set of handouts. They need to bring rubber gloves, an apron, and be dressed appropriately for the task at hand.

When offering a hands-on learning activity, organizers may choose to order copies of handouts and other materials from stationery printers. This can include full-color photos and other graphics.

This introduction to the cold process method of soapmaking will begin at 12:00 noon on Saturday, May 31. Details about the venue and its location can be found on the Doylestown Parks and Recreation website.
