The season for walking tours at the Historic Doylestown Cemetery kicks off on the second weekend of March with a free tour of the cemetery's arboretum.
Chris May, an arborist with May Horticultural Services, will lead the tour, during which guests will take note of any seasonal activity going on in the landscape at the cemetery. The trip will also feature a maple tree tapping demonstration. Even in Doylestown, maple trees can be tapped to produce maple syrup.
The arboretum visit is just the first in a series of walking tours throughout the cemetery. Each one is led either by an expert in the field, such as May, or by a re-enactor in costume. Some tours are one-time-only affairs, while others take place on a weekly or monthly basis. A Historic Doylestown tour takes place every first Friday at 6:00 pm and every first and third Saturday at 10:00 am. The arboretum tour takes place four times a year.
Doylestown brochure printers can help let tourists and locals know about the tour. The Brochures could describe each eventand list its times. Information would include who leads the tours and what people might learn on them.
While the walks are offered free of charge, donations are gladly accepted. Doylestown cemetery will also conduct group tours for a donation of $5 per person. Funds received are used to maintain the gravestones and monuments at the cemetery. Other tours conducted there include a Civil War tour, which explores the stories of Doylestown men who fought in the war, and Halloween tours in the month of October.
