SmartAsset, has ranked cities in the United States to determine which one is most favorable for beer drinkers, and Portland received the coveted top spot.
The financial research firm used various criteria to determine rankings, such as average cost of a domestic draught beer per pint, breweries for every 100,000 residents, total number of breweries, average of beers per brewery, and bars per 10,000 citizens.
Here in the City of Roses, beer drinkers are in the top 10 for bars for every 10,000 residents and the number of breweries for each 100,000, with an average pint of beer $5 and breweries averaging 75.9 beers. The report also showed that overall, residents of Portland have palettes that appreciate hops and malted barley.
Right behind Portland in the top 10 is Asheville, North Carolina, followed by the other Portland – the one in Maine. Cincinnati, Ohio; Bend, Oregon; Duluth, Minnesota; Denver, Colorado; Seattle, Washington; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and Fort Collins, Colorado complete the list.

SmartAsset’s financial education vice president, Al Smith, summed up the report on Portland by saying that the variety of craft brews available here makes it highly likely that even the pickiest beer enthusiasts will find one that will match his or her tastes.
