New license plate design honors milestone year

In recognition of the 20th Anniversary of the Oregon Cultural Trust, a new license plate design titled Celebrate Oregon! will go on sale next month.

The artwork on which the plates are based was created by Eugene resident Liza Burns. Celebrate Oregon! will be fitted as full-scale murals at several Oregon airports. Plus, a 38-foot outdoor banner will be placed at the Portland Art Museum’s Northwest Film Center.

The unveiling of the mural and events celebrating the occasion at the Portland International Airport will take place in mid-November. The license plate’s artwork can be obtained as a limited-edition print, as well as a poster.

In addition to banners, poster printing services can also create postcards and other stationery items to match.

Celebrate Oregon! has been described as a vibrant tapestry of the state’s geography. The artwork features 127 symbols woven together to represent different elements of Oregon’s collective art, cultural practices, history, and heritage.

An interactive visual key, which is QR code accessible, will be included with license plate artwork, detailing the various symbols and their connection to Oregon culture. The key will explain the scope of cultures Oregonians represent.

The new license plates will go on sale on October 1 on the Oregon DMV website, as well as at car dealerships across the state and at DMV field offices.
