Once again, Portland Derby organizers are paying tribute to The Kentucky Derby with their own derby day celebration.
“Run for the Rose City” will take place this May, marking the 17th annual Portland Derby party, complete with big hats, sundresses, and of course, mint julips. Much like its inspiration in the Bluegrass State, the Rose City’s celebration of the “fastest two minutes in sports” will be the event of the season. Attendees will dress to the nines, dance, drink, and watch the race taking place in Louisville.
There will be over $2,500 in prizes for the best dressed lady, best dressed gentleman, and best dressed couple. Trophies and prize ribbons are among the items typically offered by Print shops.
The doors for the event open at 11 am, commencing the beginning of the pre-race festivities. At 2:45 the best dressed prizes are given out and the horse auction begins at 2:55. At 3:57 the race is broadcast live on a huge screen, and immediately afterward until 6 pm, the dancing and eating take place.
The following food trucks will be on hand: Pidgin Hole, Tamale Boy, and Alchemy Sandwiches. Food and drink purchases are on a cash only bases; and with 2,000 or more guests expected lines to take out cash at the Redd on Salmon’s two ATM machines could be long.
Run for the Rose City will take place on May 4. Strictly a 21-and-over event, IDs will be checked at the door. Advanced tickets are $35; tickets at the door will be $50, if available.Get a Free Quote for Print
