The Concord, a low-income apartment building in downtown Medford, Oregon, is reaching the end of its construction.
The Concord will be a four-story apartment building with 50 apartments and is located behind the Mail Tribune, a local Medford newspaper run by GateHouse Media, a company that provides publishing and marketing services.
The first story of the half-acre apartment building will contain a community room, as well as a children’s activity room. The second, third, and fourth story will contain both two and three-bedroom apartments. Some of the units are specially designed for those with developmental disabilities, as well as those people who need wheelchair accessible features. The units also include new appliances, laminate counter tops, wide doorways, for those with disabilities, window mounted HVAC units, garbage chutes, and small balconies.
The Concord will provide housing for the elderly who have fixed incomes, people trying to recover from substance abuse, and veterans. The cost of a one-bedroom unit is priced at $430 a month and a two-bedroom is $520.
The Concord has set an income limit for its applicants as well, which is $18,700 for a single person, $21,350 for two, $24,000 for three, and $26,650 for four. Hundreds have already applied for the vacant apartments and the Housing Authority has held a lottery to choose those who have applied.
The Concord should be moving residents in around January 1.
