Medford birds are getting ready for their long flight south, and an outing will observe these wonders in the wild as they prepare for their fall migration.
Sanctuary One, which is located at Double Oak farm in Jacksonville, has initiated a program that sees the public enjoy a guided outing to view the birds that call the site home. The calendar of these monthly walks wraps up in September, and tickets are available now.
Ulrich, who works at Wild Bird’s Unlimited, will share her bird observation and ID tips, and the cost to participate is $8. The participants will count the species they see, and this data will then be used to help monitor the numbers that are either passing through on their way south or are permanent residents. All levels of experience can take part, and everyone is remained to bring binoculars and dress appropriately for the outdoors.
An activity like this can be both fun and informative, and can be a good way for beginner birders to get involved. Species tally sheets and other printed tools for the job may be sourced from area Stationery printers.
This last instalment of the 2021 Birding at Sanctuary One excursions has been scheduled for September 18. Everyone who Signs up is asked to meet up at the site’s farm stand, and the group will head out from there.
