The organization helps people who have mental health needs with such tasks as finding housing, overcoming their mental health disorders, continuing their education, or finding employment. The group currently has seven facilities scattered across Josephine County and Jackson County.
Matt Brinkley, the city planner for Medford, is not only excited about the new building, but also about what it represents. He said:
“The zoning there I think accommodates this particular use. I think it was anticipated that something like this would be built there. It’s important for people to know that we are seeing a lot of development both residential and with employment.”
This new facility will be located in downtown at a vacant lot on Central and Beatty Street, where the old Lithia Honda car dealership used to sit. It is not known yet what type of facility Options for Southern Oregon plans on opening, but it is speculated that it will most likely use the lot for additional office space or as a counseling center for mental health.
