Prior to this launch, the city did not have any alternative types of public transportation. Due to the fact that these types of services would help bring in revenue for the city, as well as keep people off of their phones while driving, the city council decided to make ride-sharing legal in October.
Kevin Stine, a member of the Medford City Council, said about the ride-sharing services being allowed in the city:
“Ridesharing will provide our city with greatly desired transportation options at no cost to taxpayers. Medford residents will now be able to hail an Uber through their mobile device and get a safe ride home whenever they need it.”
He added that he was looking forward to welcoming these services to the area.
In celebration of the launch, Uber and Lyft has been offering special discounts. Uber’s discount has now expired, but Lyft’s promotion is still running and new users will receive $5 when they sign up for the app using the code LYFTLOVE17.
