Medford invited to become mental health first aiders

Just as a person's physical health is not always in top form, their mental health can sometimes also be in need of some first aid. A Medford workshop will equip members of the public with both the knowledge and skills they need to provide support for someone in mental distress until professional health can be obtained, and this training is being offered at no cost.

This learning opportunity will focus on the importance of mental health and also the warning Signs that can accompany issues such as depression, eating disorders, anxiety disorders, and other mental illnesses. There are seats available for up to 30 students, and light refreshments will be provided.

During the course of the training, each of the learners will develop a five-step plan they can draw on until the individual in crisis can connect with a professional or other sources of support. The participants who attend the workshop, pass a written test’ and complete an online course evaluation will receive a certificate indicating that they are trained in Mental Health First Aid. These can be sources from a company that provides Letterheads and other customized Stationery.

Jackson County Health and Human Services, which is located at 140 South Holly Street, will be offering this learning opportunity on February 14. It will run from 8:30 am until 5:00 pm.
