The Randall Theatre is currently hosting its 6th Annual Nightmare Chamber. The haunted house has become well-known the Medford area, and enjoys a particular boost in popularity during the Halloween season.
The Nightmare Chamber, the theme of which for this year is ‘Night Terrors’, is famous for its spooky attention to detail. Put together by local theater technicians, set designers, special effects teams, and makeup artists, every corner of the 10,000 square foot warehouse is transformed into a maze of horror. Every year the team creates a new piece for the haunted house, and this year is no different. The team has used animatronics and computer controls to create the Hall of Clowns – a corridor stuffed with every kind of spooky, murderous, and nightmarish clown that can be imagined.
At the center of the effort are artistic director Robin Downward and Universal Studios FX artists Rachel and Kevin Tolson. Robin chooses the themes and scares that will fill the haunted house every year, Rachel does the makeup work for the monsters and their victims, and Kevin designs custom masks for the project. The Tolsons also host a makeup and mask making workshop for those interesting in upping their Halloween costume game.
The Nightmare Chamber is in its last weekend and will run from to this Sunday, November 1, from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm at the Randall Theater Warehouse located at 10 E. Thirst St. in Medford.
