A fermented honey-based beverage with a long and storied history, and a Medford area event will introduce mead to the public.
Chris Byrne, who is an area mead enthusiast, will be sharing his expertise during a workshop scheduled for 300 N Pioneer Street in Ashland. Believed to be one of the first alcoholic beverages produced, Byrne will discuss techniques for preparing mead, which is also known as honey wine, in the present day.
The learners will be taught about the history of mead and how it is believed to have once been a base for a variety of medicines. They will learn about the art and science of managing wild fermentation, and using common ingredients that tend to be easy to find will also be included. Everyone can take in the hands-on demonstration, and a tasting session will also take place.
As mead is produced using fermentation, it will take a few weeks for it to be ready, so registrants will be invited to return for a future bottling event. A printing services company's graphic design team can prepare everything from custom prepared bottle labels and tasting glasses to a company Logo Design.
This opportunity to learn about mead and enjoy some taste testing will be offered on Thursday, November 7. It is scheduled to begin at 6:00 pm.
