Medford residents who have been itching to get outdoors and engage in some environmental stewardship may find an offering in the local area will be just what they have been looking for.
Rogue River Preserve can use a little bit of TLC, and volunteers are being sought to get involved in the project. The goal for the day will be to remove as much scotch broom as possible, as this invasive species can choke out native plants.
Each participant will be issued gloves and the tools needed for the task, and drinks and snacks will also be provided. Those who are interested are reminded that the activity will be held even in light rain, but heavy showers may mean it will need to be postponed.
By removing the invasive plants, the helpers will be ensuring there will be room for native species and the animals that depend on them.
