In a press release, Freeman said:
“She has extensive knowledge of the parks system’s 170 parks, more than 90 miles of trails and five golf courses.”
In her new job, McMillian-Miller will be overseeing 200 employees across four divisions: Grounds Management, Natural Resources, Administration, and Recreation. Other duties include managing five commissions and trusts: Parks Commission, Golf Commission, Trails Advisory Committee, Game and Fish Commission, and the Oklahoma City Riverfront Redevelopment Authority.
As parks offer more activities, the number of Brochures required to keep patrons informed may increase, which sometimes means more phone calls to a local brochure printing service.
McMillian-Miller will also be responsible for overseeing Portland’s relationships with public-private partnerships.
The new Park Director has been with the department since 2013 when she was hired as the natural resources division manager. She was promoted in 2015 to assistant director.
Prior to coming to Oklahoma City, McMillian-Miller was in Tulsa, employed as garden manager to the Philbrook Museum of Art. Before Tulsa, she had the role of senior gardener in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania at Longwood Gardens and also interned in Kew, London, England at the Royal Botanic Gardens.
