Go-ahead given for indoor softball facility in Oklahoma City

In keeping with its station as the “Softball Capital of the World”, Oklahoma City’s council has given its approval for the construction of an indoor softball facility in Devon Park.

The vote in favor of the $25.4m complex was a unanimous one and the two-story facility, designed by Oklahoma City-based STUDIO Architecture, is expected to break ground this summer. The chosen location is a parking lot on the west side of Devon Park.

The indoor complex will include two practice fields with each having a full infield featuring dropdown nets to make three batting cages along with two pitching lanes. Additionally, there will be two locker rooms, each measuring 800 square feet and containing 25 lockers, as well as restroom facilities with showers. Also included will be a 367-sqare-foot training room complete with six training tables, laundry facilities, a weight room, and hydrotherapy room containing four ice tubs.

The second floor of the facility will consist of a team meeting room, administrative offices, a media room, and a central lobby, as well as a private secured entrance for softball teams. The practice facility will be connected to Devon Park stadium via a climate-controlled walkway.

The softball complex is scheduled for completion in late 2027, before the Women’s College World Series takes place.
